Local tip
🛵 Getting around Huahine by car or scooter
Good news: in Huahine, no traffic jams, no honking, no stress. The whole island is limited to 60 km/h — and 30 km/h in the village of Fare, just enough time to wave at everyone. Here, we drive the way we live: slowly.
⚠️ A few precautions, though
Our roads are shared with some rather special residents: philosophical dogs meditating in the middle of the tarmac, hens in a hurry, and sometimes a pig that has decided the road belongs to it. They don't always look before crossing — so it's up to you to look for them.
Locals know every bend by heart. They weave along with the confidence of someone who grew up here. You, on the other hand, are just discovering the island. No shame in that: stay careful, especially in busy areas — schools, docks, the Fare market.
💛 One last piece of advice, friend to friend
The light traffic is not an invitation to park in the middle of the road to admire the lagoon or find your way. If you're lost (it happens, and it's fine — you're on holiday), pull over to the side, breathe, take out the map. The road will thank you, and so will the scooters behind you.
Drive gently, smile, and give a little wave — it's the local custom. 🌺
